Ay, there's the rub

“As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let us down, probably will,” is how an e-mail that I received yesterday, opened. Mm-hmm, I thought aloud, as it went on. “You'll have your heart broken and you'll break others' hearts. You'll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them, and you'll cry because time is flying by. So take many pictures, laugh much, forgive freely, and love like you've never been hurt...”

Now, I’m really not a fan of such stuff but, almost as if on cue, eerily, a ghost from the past reared its head this morning, offering the perfect opportunity to put the pop philosophy to test. (Notice how I didn’t say “rear its ugly head”?)

The problem is, while I forgive very easily, I can’t forget. I can’t forget because I can’t...not because I hold on to grudges but because I have bloody a good memory, which can, sometimes, be a curse. Like the lovely Kathleen Edwards says, memory’s a terrible thing. And, so, thanks to what I can’t forget, I’m just wondering whether I should? I’m dithering between ‘yes’ and ‘no’. But, I’ll confess, I’m more inclined towards the former.

Aw, crap! I grow old, I grow old...

yes, you DO have a terrific memory. And I have a VERY bad one.

It's not very good either ways.

So, what did the ghost with the not ugly head want? :D

And, have you finished dithering?

S: :-) Yeah, but, I don't think you have a "VERY bad" memory. It's just that you don't remember everything. You forget, which is perfectly fine and normal.

Maia: Oh, the ghost wants to "reconnect", which is what I'm about to do. And, that should answer your second question too - yes, I have finished dithering!

i suppose that if you forgive and make peace, then the remembering does not matter?

RICERCAR: True, true. But, really, not remembering half the things, like most people, would be such a relief :-)

How've you been?
