Happiness is a warm gun?

A few days ago, a friend was feeling rather down and, being the absolutely wonderful person that I am, I was trying to cheer her up, urging her to look at the brighter side of life or some such crap.

Digression. Crap because, as we know, there is no brighter side to life. End digression.

But, unfortunately, my problem is that I just don't know when to stop...most people would quit when they're ahead and still winning but, ha, I'm not most people! It's in my nature, I think, to complicate things for myself and axe my own bleeding foot. Before I could realise what was happening, the tables had turned and, instead of leading the conversation, I was now answering questions. I knew I had worked myself into a corner when she asked, 'Are you really happy?' My eyes narrowed in suspicion because it seemed like a trick question...and it is, isn't it? Because, after all, no one has ever asked me if I'm really hungry or really tired or if I'm really sleepy! Anyway, needless to say, by the end of it all, I had managed to tie myself up in knots. Then, just the other day, I noticed that another friend has added the Are You Happy? application to her Facebook profile, sending me an invitation to add it as well. And, oh, this application claims to be 'scarily accurate'. Pfft! I mean, what's with all this happiness thing? Is it going out of fashion?

To slightly tweak the lyrics of a song I like, then, I could be happy...and you won't know. Ha! Who's having the last laugh now, eh?

Ok. First thing to be happy about is - and celebrate perhaps - is that you posted after a year!

Well, there are these life phases, you know when one questions what they're doing, their life... etc etc... But that's why life is life, right? If you'd be happy like ALL THE TIME, you'd never know the difference between happy and sad, yes?

Phew. The way I philosophise on the subject, you'd think I was being paid by the happiness gods !:)

Mad Angles: Guess what was staring out in BOLD on the Yahoo start-up page this morning...'HAPPY at Work?' It's a conspiracy, I'm telling you! :-)

BTW, aren't these 'phases' supposed to have a duration or something?

I'm sorry but your last question just cracked me right up!

Well yes they do, but you don't sound to me like you're forever in a shit phase?
Strangely enough, I'll tell you one thing, I'm going through what could possibly one of the worst phases of my life - personally and professionally, but then I still have happy moments. The thing to do is increase the frequency of these happy moments... which is often the tough part, but it's not impossible. :)

MAD A: I'm not in a shit phase but then, you know what they say...shit happens all the time :-)

Like much else, happiness is also in the head but knowing that is hardly a comfort...because it may be all there but sometimes we just can't find it.

Hope your 'phase' ends soon and you can turn the corner

Happiness... is such a bugger, no? It stays for such a little while... but then, I think these little whiles make it all worthwhile.

Left you a comment on the "Tuesday, February 14, 2006" post...

Thought I'd let you know.

Hey Monsoon! Yeah, totally! Bugger it is :-)

It depends on the gaps between those little whiles, doesn't it?

Have left a response to your other comment there...thought I'd let you know :-)

Thanks for both your comments.
